Hi,
I'm Ben the founder of Dream Journals. You probably know me from my content @b3njournal on most platforms, and I'm about to break down "Why We Started".
So buckle in :)
The Beginning
I stared journaling at 15. After a terrible terrible situationship breakup (or at least if felt so at the time).
In hindsight it wasn't that bad. But in the moment I felt feelings I'd never felt before. and Took to the only Thing I had.
Paper.
I developed the habit of writing down my feelings, I tried to keep up daily, but school, orchestra, or badminton would get in the way.
And it was only once I stared univestiy that I truly became a firm habit.
Confusion
Starting Uni I was lost. I was studying a degree I didn't really want to study, at a university I didn't want to be at, and was just trying to figure out what to do with my life.
Journaling, once again, helped ground me in my time of need.
I developed the habit of writing daily, not just my feelings, but starting to plan, brainstorm, ideas, undestand WHY I felt what I felt.
Most people think journaling is only about writing down your feelings. But it is so much more.
By going through the deep process of self-discovery. Figuring out:
- Who I Was
- What I Stood For
- Why I was doing what I did
That I finally gained clarity.
Clarity (ish)
Clarity comes in phases, it's like climbing a mountain, you reach what you think is the peak, only to discover its a false one.
But along the journey you discover a series of peaks, and troughs.
The peaks being the things you love, believe in, excel in. Where as the troughs, are those that you don't.
But is was in my second year after another tough breakup (yeah my luck), a summer internship in LLM research, and a Job offer from a start-up.
That I faced another tough decision:
- Stable 9 to 5 + Building my own business & content alongside
- All in on someone else's dream.
Look now writing it down, it seems that number 1 is the OBVIOUS CHOICE. But in the moment it too a lot of thinking through.
And I actually ended up working for the start up for 3 months and going to SF before I realised this wasn't for me.
I'd much rather be working a 9 to 5 during the day, and chasing my dream alongside.
That's where dream journals comes in.
Dream Journals
Each Dream Journal is a dedicated space for your greatest ideas, for your dreams.
It's a blank canvas, ready for you to paint.
And the motivation came from wanting a journal that embodies what I wanted in one.
- Not a journal full of gimmicky prompts
- Not a journal with an ugly design
- Not a journal that I'd use once a month (when I got heartbroken... again)
I wanted a journal:
- I was proud to use.
- I'd keep beside me, not on my shelf
- I wanted to hold, use, share,
EVERYDAY
There wasn't one on the market that had the "heart" in it.
So I designed, tested, iterated, and as a result Dream Journals was born!
It's still a work in progress and we're working closely with dreamers (YOU!) to make the best journals we can.
But How Do I Journal?
Ah yes, we don't have any "journaling resources" on our website.
But I post and share resource about "How I Journal", "How you could get started", and "how other people in the community use it.
Because at the end of the day. We are a community of Dreamers. People taking action towards the life they wanna live.
Daily.
So if you have specific journaling questions:
